Grown Ups Role at DCM

Parent and child at DCMVisiting the Museum with Your Child

DuPage Children’s Museum is a positive-experience museum where every answer is the right answer, and there’s more than one way to do everything.

As an important Grown Up in your child's life, you play a vital role. When you visit the Museum, you can co-learn with your child or children by considering the following guildines:

Follow your child’s lead

  • Children learn best when they choose activities that interest them.

Talk with your child

  • Ask open-ended questions such as, "I wonder what would happen if…?" or "How are you planning to make the next part?"
  • Offer encouragement: "You really tried hard!" or "I can tell by the look on your face that you really like playing with the water."

Play with your child

  • Children learn with relationships with adults they care about.
  • When children share an experience with an important adult in their lives, their self-esteem is enhanced.

Enjoy the moment

  • Relax and have fun.
  • Savor this special time with your child.
