Just for Grown Ups: Awakening Children’s Minds

Dr. Laura E. Berk to speak at Edward Education Center on October 3

 

Nationally renowned author, professor and researcher in the field of child development, Dr. Laura E. Berk, will bring her experience of over 30 years to Naperville on October 3, to a talk about how adult-child communication in shared activities can enhance children’s psychological development.

 

Educators, parents, caregivers and grandparents are encouraged to participate in this special evening presentation where she’ll discuss a number of ways parents and teachers can make a difference, with special emphasis on the role of adult-child collaborative play in young children’s development—including language, reasoning, imagination, problem-solving, creativity and wide-ranging emotional and social skills.

 

This unique evening program for adults on October 3 will start at 7 p.m. in the Education Center of Edward Hospital in Naperville.  Upon completion, participants will be able to purchase autographed copies of Dr. Berk’s most recent book, Awakening Children's Minds: How Parents and Teachers Can Make a Difference and will be awarded 1.5 CPDUs.  For more details or to register, please call DuPage Children's Museum at 630-637-8000 before the auditorium sells out!

DUPAGE CHILDREN’S MUSEUM:

DuPage Children’s Museum, a top Chicagoland cultural attraction, is a not-for-profit organization celebrating its 20th Anniversary in 2007—an imagination celebration of the importance of play, as envisioned by our founders. 

 

On any given day, about 1000 visitors come through the Big Red Door of DuPage Children’s Museum and engage in three floors of open-ended activities. It is a playful, fun environment where children and the important adults in their lives learn and play together in thoughtfully planned “neighborhoods” designed to promote skill development in math, science and the arts.
