Lisa of north aurora, IL - Tuesday, October 05, 2010 at 19:40:22 DCM CHAMPION Number 316 The museum has provided a suburban place for young children and families to spend the day while engaging instimulating and age appropriate activities. As Early Childhood educator, I have shared an outing with children and families and it has always been rewarding. I have always received positive feedback. It would be a great loss to the community, educators and our little friends. PLease keep them in Naperville an dhelp them as they are a true asset to your city. Carol of Naperville, IL - Tuesday, October 05, 2010 at 18:38:18 DCM CHAMPION Number 310 We think that the DuPage Children's Museum is an asset to the county and to the city of Naperville. Our children loved going to the museum with our family and with their elementary schools when the museum was in Wheaton. The children of Naperville and the neighboring communities are lucky to have the museum in our own backyard. We look forward to taking our future grandchildren there! The city should be proud to have the DuPage Children's Museum and I hope that it does everything in its power to protect it. Please support this museum Erika of Naperville, IL - Tuesday, October 05, 2010 at 17:58:57 DCM CHAMPION Number 306 The DuPage Children's Museum is the only facility of its type available to the children of the western and southern suburbs of Chicago. Supporting not only the developmental, but academic and artistic growth of the children of our community is a responsibility none of us should ignore. In this time of economic uncertainty, the public support of the Museum has become essential to its survival. Meg of Hinsdale, IL - Tuesday, October 05, 2010 at 17:57:19 DCM CHAMPION Number 305 The Museum provides invaluable learning experiences for our young children, in a wonderful, play/learning environment . It serves not only our Naperville Community but surrounding areas as well as those visiting the city. We , as a family , bring our 2 young grandsons at every opportunity and they in turn come with their friends. Our daughter , a graduate of Dist. 204, also has volunteered at this museum for over 9 years. Anna Maria of Naperville, IL - Tuesday, October 05, 2010 at 17:55:53 DCM CHAMPION Number 304 It's just inconceivable to think that it could be located anywhere but Naperville! Anne-Marie of Naperville, IL - Tuesday, October 05, 2010 at 17:45:11 DCM CHAMPION Number 303 I LOVE TO TAKE MY TWO-YEAR OLD GRANDSON TO DCM. HE KNOWS ALL OF THE NEIGHBORHOODS AND THOROUGHLY ENJOYS HIMSELF. I TRULY BELIEVE IT HAS HELPED HIM LEARN HIS COLORS AND HIS SHAPES. PHYLLIS of NAPERVILLE, IL - Tuesday, October 05, 2010 at 17:40:09 DCM CHAMPION Number 302 DCM is a great safe, learning environment for children of all ages. Naperville is lucky to have such a wonderful place for children to enjoy and learn at the same time. I have been volunteering there for lover a year and love it! Michele of Aurora, IL - Tuesday, October 05, 2010 at 17:33:23 DCM CHAMPION Number 301 The DuPage Children's Museum is certainly a treasure for our community. Ir brings together families and creative resources in an outstanding and unique way. As an educator for 25+ years, I have certainly experienced many child centered facilities, but the DuPage Children's Museum is without a doubt that best that I have encountered.I strongly urge the Council to vote yes on this most important financial legislation to insure that this amazing resource stays a vital part of Naperville. Linda of Naperville, IL - Tuesday, October 05, 2010 at 17:31:03 DCM CHAMPION Number 300 Early childhood education is critical to our society. DCM allows children to engage in challenging and enjoyable activities that teaches them the foundational concepts in math, science, and the arts and how to formulate questions and solve problems. It has already become an important adjunct to our schools; it now has over 333,000 annual visitors; and it is poised to provide even greater benefits for society in the future. It would be tragic if DCM ceased to exist David of Chicago, IL - Tuesday, October 05, 2010 at 17:25:46 DCM CHAMPION Number 299 This museum let's children explore, learn and BE children! The staff and volunteers make this a great place to visit often with little ones. It is a treasure for the entire western suburban area. The location by the Metra is very convenient for many people also. Paulette of Bolingbrook, IL - Tuesday, October 05, 2010 at 17:24:25 DCM CHAMPION Number 298 The DCM is a valuable resource for the city as it offers a safe, fun place that fosters learning for all ages of children. Michele of Aurora, IL - Tuesday, October 05, 2010 at 17:21:38 DCM CHAMPION Number 297 All of my 4 children love to visit the DuPage Children's Museum and explore. My older boys learn from the DCM program when it visits their elementary school. It is a valuable community resource for children. Please help keep it going. Marilyn of Lisle, IL - Tuesday, October 05, 2010 at 17:21:17 DCM CHAMPION Number 296 The DCM is an innovative museum. The design and creativity that is put into each exhibit is impressive. That means my kids can learn creativity, reasoning and other cognitive and motor skills in a safe environment. We love having the DCM as a resource in our area and a place to play. Emily of Woodridge, IL - Tuesday, October 05, 2010 at 17:07:49 DCM CHAMPION Number 295 A classic win-win situation. The City secures a huge downtown attraction with what up-front cost there is paid back over time as part of the deal; the Museum sheds the drain on programs its debt has become and becomes eligible for a wider spectrum of grants by virtue of now sitting on public land. Everybody wins. Raymond of Naperville, IL - Tuesday, October 05, 2010 at 16:28:47 DCM CHAMPION Number 294 Only thing like it in the area. Kids and children love it. Brings lots of visitors to the Naperville area to shop, dine, etc. janet of naperville, IL - Tuesday, October 05, 2010 at 16:19:25 DCM CHAMPION Number 293 The answer should be obvious! Anyone one who shows up at the Museum, on any given day, can observe kids everywhere, participating in the best sort of learning there is, experiential learning! The Museum basically serves as a brightly colored and well-equipped lab for children. To take away this lab is to deprive children of a fun and highly effective learning experience. It would be criminal! Desiree of Geneva, IL - Tuesday, October 05, 2010 at 16:15:35 DCM CHAMPION Number 292 We've only been members of the museum going on our second year. My daughters 3.5 and 9 months absolutely LOVE the museum. My oldest has learned so much there. Every time we go, she finds something new or interacts with something in a different way. It has exposed us to so many ideas and information in a fun, informative way. She LOVES the museum and is always asking when we can go again. I don't know what our county would do without it. We intend to come to the museum regularly for a very long time! Aisha of West Chicago, IL - Tuesday, October 05, 2010 at 16:10:58 DCM CHAMPION Number 291 The DuPage Children's Museum is not only a fun place for the family but is educational and engaging. It is a family favorite and is loved unanimously by almost all out of the city/country visitors whom we have entertained so far! We have also been able to bring the museum's portable exhibits to our families who otherwise would not be able to experience it. Chris of Joliet, IL - Tuesday, October 05, 2010 at 15:51:14 DCM CHAMPION Number 288 That museum is so important for the kids. They love it so much. Virginie of Lisle, IL - Tuesday, October 05, 2010 at 15:40:19 DCM CHAMPION Number 287 The museum is a wonderful resource for all kinds of families that provides novel learning experiences for many different age groups. It has provided my older kids with excellent math and science learning opportunities and I would like that to continue for my kindergartener. I think it is also an attraction that brings people to Naperville which is important for the businesses too. Maribeth of Naperville, IL - Tuesday, October 05, 2010 at 15:29:05 DCM CHAMPION Number 286 The presence of the DuPage Children's Museum was definitely a factor in my family's decision to move to Naperville ten years ago. Please vote to support it! Laura of Naperville, IL - Tuesday, October 05, 2010 at 15:24:23 DCM CHAMPION Number 285 My children love the museum. My now 12 year old has been going since we moved to naperville 6 years ago and he still likes to do the wooden building projects. It is a safe place with a wide variety of exploratory play areas that are not found anywhere else nearby. Honestly, Chicago is too far for young children on a regular basis. Amy of Naperville, IL - Tuesday, October 05, 2010 at 12:34:06 DCM CHAMPION Number 263 It's an outstanding venue for young children to develop their abilities through open-ended constructive play...like non other! Linda of Naperville, IL - Tuesday, October 05, 2010 at 12:32:43 DCM CHAMPION Number 262 As a grandparent, I have visited the museum a couple of times with grandchildren. The children loved all of the activities offered for their age group. The educational and interactive areas for the little ones and toddlers are exceptional. Being the size of town that Naperville is, this museum is well used. It is also located close enough to surrounding towns that make it quite accessible to many more people as well. (Certainly easier than driving to Navy Pier for example.) I would really hope that the Naperville City Council could see the immense value in acquiring the Museum property. Karen of Batavia, IL - Tuesday, October 05, 2010 at 10:48:52 DCM CHAMPION Number 238 It's a great place to spend time with my kids. It's a fun, interactive, learning environment. Greg of Naperville, IL - Tuesday, October 05, 2010 at 10:43:47 DCM CHAMPION Number 237 Besides the fact that everything in this educational institution is developed to respond to ways young people actually learn, grow and develop, it brings millions of dollars into the downtown area throughout the entire year - including winter. It is an award winning institution, bringing far more renown and property value to the city than something like a parking structure (which could still be built in the museum's parking lot to everyone's benefit). Marcia of Naperville, IL - Tuesday, October 05, 2010 at 10:43:32 DCM CHAMPION Number 236 it is an institute of knowledge for children and adults.it is an asset for our community.we love it.we can not do without it. indravadan of aurora, IL - Tuesday, October 05, 2010 at 10:42:32 DCM CHAMPION Number 235 I have been first a visitor/fan and then a volunteer at the museum since the early years of both the museum and my daughter were young. I have watch both grow tremendously! this Children's Museum goes beyond other venues by providing an element for learning through play that has been almost lost in our high tech world. I experienced this with my own child the first time we visited and instantly I felt this was a golden opportunity to build a strong tomorrow. Young children are still developing at this point and what better time to "hard wire" them with the tools they will need to solve the challenges of tomorrow. The open ended exhibits encourage curiosity and reward problem solving all under the actions of play. What community would let this golden goose slip away? Parents understand the difference as shown by the recent award DCM received from the "Nickeloden Parents Choice" Award. DCM was top pick in Chicagoland above Chicago's own children's museum! It is my sincere hope that City Council Votes to keep the Museum here. Thank you for thoughtful consideration. Barbara of Naperville, IL - Tuesday, October 05, 2010 at 10:42:23 DCM CHAMPION Number 234 Rachel of Naperville, IL - Tuesday, October 05, 2010 at 10:41:05 DCM CHAMPION Number 233 It is my children's favorite place to play. It's a godsend in the winter when it's too cold to go to the playground. It has way more educational and interactive toys and exhibits than I could ever have at home. Finally, the guest musicians play a variety of live music that my children wouldn't get to hear otherwise. It's one of the key things that makes Naperville great for families. Peter of Aurora, IL - Tuesday, October 05, 2010 at 10:38:19 DCM CHAMPION Number 232 We travel far to get to the best children museum in the metropolitan area Arturo of Tinley Park, IL - Tuesday, October 05, 2010 at 10:36:46 DCM CHAMPION Number 231 It happen that there are so few places where to take your children when us, as parents, can enjoy and learn at the same time that they do. Marcela of Wheaton, IL - Tuesday, October 05, 2010 at 10:36:03 DCM CHAMPION Number 230 DuPage Children's Museum is an important resource for children and families in he Chicago area. Mary of Chicago, IL - Tuesday, October 05, 2010 at 10:36:01 DCM CHAMPION Number 229 Debra of Aurora, IL - Tuesday, October 05, 2010 at 10:35:16 DCM CHAMPION Number 228 I believe that DuPage Children's Museum is a valuable asset to a city that prides itself as a family friendly town. In 2008, when Naperville was selected by Money Magazine as one of the top 10 cities in the US to live, the first place that the Money Magazine camera crew filmed was DuPage Children's Museum. This museum sheds a favorable light on the City of Naperville and has for nearly 10 years. Additionally, the museum brings hundreds of thousands of people to the downtown area year round; these visitors shop and dine when they come to Naperville. These visitors support the Downtown Naperville Alliance, the restaurants and the retailers; DCM's visitors also contribute to the SECA fund when they dine in Naperville. Lastly, DuPage Children's Museum has been a supportive partner with area schools, enhancing the learning environment for early learners in Districts 203 and 204, and many other school districts in DuPage County. There are many "feel good" reasons to support the museum. Equally important, there are solid business rationales for supporting and maintaining an institution that contributes significantly to the Naperville community. Seana of Downers Grove, IL - Tuesday, October 05, 2010 at 10:20:56 DCM CHAMPION Number 219 Children are the future. To have a resource like DCM in our town is a true gift. If you have ever met Sue Broad and the staff of DCM you know the passion and expertise they bring to the operation of this museum. Children, healthy and handicapped alike, are getting a huge educational benefit wrapped in fun! The obvious expertise of the staff to accomplish this goal is amazing. Yet, they never rest on their past accomplishments. They continue to evolve and are constantly incorporating new educational ideas at the museum. In a world where technology and learning models are advancing at such a fast pace, it is critical to engage our children. The staff at DCM know how children learn and they work endlessly to provide our children with opportunities to develop in an affordable venue. The museum has the support of hundreds of volunteers who believe in the mission of DCM and put their time and energy behind it. This in itself should be applauded as they are tapping a huge resource in our community, the expertise of our retired population. Their goal is not to make money, but to provide an educational experience. They have had to work tirelessly to not only operate what has been awarded the "Best Chicago Museum for 2010", but to pay down the burden of long term debt on the property. I sincerely hope that the city council will vote to help the DCM retire their long term debt. We certainly owe them a huge debt for shouldering this burden for the sake of our families. The exhibits not only teach but are stimulating in age appropriate content while being fun. The museum atmosphere and classes help parents and care takers learn how to be with children using developmentally appropriate practices. The DCM provides opportunities for reaching out to the larger community by offering seminars and demonstrations in learning to the child care community, the schools and college. These opportunities provide our community with an environment that is safe for children and adults to enjoy being together. We commute from Chicago and even on the train to take a mini vacation in Naperville and to enjoy the Dupage Children's Museum. Both of my children grew up going to the museum; they also were lucky enough to have the museum come to their classrooms at Naper School for special, hands-on science learning. I know many Junior High School students from WJHS who volunteer at the museum and gain valuable experience working with children and learning what it means to be a community contributor. The DuPage Children's museum is itself a valuable community contributor--enhancing our children's experiences of the world and bringing understanding of science, math, & the arts into the world of our children's play and school. Glynis of Naperville, IL - Tuesday, October 05, 2010 at 08:36:06 DCM CHAMPION Number 172 To those who don't have small children or who have never been to DCM can't possibly comprehend how it promotes problem solving in Math, Science and Creativity in young children. I've been to every Childrens Museum in IL and can tell you possitively that DCM is by far the best. It's an asset to Naperville and an inviting gateway to the downtown area and was named in the top 10 tourist attractions in IL according to Crain's & was just awarded best museum by Nickelodeum; what in Naperville can match this accomplishment; DCM only adds to allure of the city! I'm sure many who go to DCM also go downtown for lunch & shopping which also helps the local economy. After reading newspapers & hearing comments, I feel that many who had negative opinions misunderstood what restrictions are placed on the funds that will be used for helping the Museum and that the money will not be coming from more taxes. If facts surrounding this had been highlighted more strongly and in clearer easier to understand language in the papers, I think many who oppose the idea might actually be in favor of keeping DCM here forever. Naperville prides itself on our local educational system and DCM can only give an earlier start and better learning foundation than past generation ever had! I urge you to finally do the right thing for the Museum and Naperville by giving DCM the help it needs! I expect to see even greater and more creative exhibits when they are debt free and can be even better than they already are! The availability of materials to help parents and caregivers with child raising and comprehension of their stages of development is plentiful. The Children's Museum is a gem for all of DuPage County and especially Napervillians. The proximity to the train station is so perfect for parents and caregivers to bring their children by train to the museum, a different mode of transportation children would enjoy and also learn about transportation other than a car! We have a family + membership and we frequent the museums often, our membership entitles us to visit all of the local children's museums and I have to admit that DCM is the best one we have visited. I have found that the museum has some of everything and offers educational activities that even my 16 month old has been able to participate in and enjoy since before she was a year old. We have attended special members nights and met new friends in the community there. It is very important to maintain educational yet playful activities for children in our community especially in this day and age where video games and TV rule and so many kids are overweight. The Dupage Children's Museum is an asset to our city and I am proud to say I am a member. In my book any place that can take a pair of over active twins and a 16 month old baby and make them stop, look around engage in things and want to learn is worth saving in my book. I hope the museum is around long enough to be able to watch my children graduate on to every section because I know in there eyes at DCM there is always more to learn with, laugh with, and more new and special friends to make. Kathleen of Woodridge, IL - Tuesday, October 05, 2010 at 07:33:19 DCM CHAMPION Number 157 The DuPage Children's Museum is an important resource not only to our children but their families as well. On top of offering a stellar place to play, they also offer important cultural events that deepen understandings and inspire imaginations. Research proves that children learn more effectively through play, compared to the alternative of didactic teaching, which actually suppresses child-initiated learning and undermines young children’s self-confidence and motivation to learn. Studies show that play-based learning is a more effective platform for children’s long-term success in learning, or “school success.” Given how critical education is, please vote YES to keep this quiet but powerful safe haven that supports children’s lives and their long-term growth and well-being. Our children need it. Our families need it. Our community needs it. Please keep Children's Museum where it belongs, at the heart of our community. Thank you. Adrienne says "Are we going to the Museum?" as soon as we arrive at their home. It has become our routine that we visit the Museum almost every day whenever we are in Naperville. Adrienne loves the place so much that she would stay there all day if we let her. We bought the annual pass for three of us last February. I would say that it was the best investment for us ever. Yoshi Kawashima Yoshi of Houston, TX - Tuesday, October 05, 2010 at 00:20:22 DCM CHAMPION Number 149 It is a wonderful place for a child to develop the love to learn, discover and explore at their own pace. My 8yrs old, 7yrs old and 2 yrs old enjoy the museum equally as much because it allows them to learn new things everytime. To see my 2 year old discover bubbles, puzzles and water-play has been priceless. The Museum has been extremely important in my family's life. It allows us the opportunity to spend time together. I am certain this is true for many other families as well. Thank you, Claudia claudia of naperville , IL - Tuesday, October 05, 2010 at 00:17:08 DCM CHAMPION Number 148 Dupage Children's Museum is such a wonderful place for parents and children to learn, explore, and discover together! My children and I have spent many memorable afternoons there. The fun we had, the things we have learned, and the time spent together will be memories that will last a life time. The museum offers so many great exhibits, special guests, and events that I could not possibly offer to my children in my own home. Such wonderful opportunities right here in our own city. As my children are getting older, 4,6,and 9, we still enjoy our trips to the Dupage Children's Museum. Lastly, the field trips that the museum offers to the schools are invaluable. We have participated in several (at the museum and at our elementary school)and they have been so informative, well run, and inspiring. My hope and wish is that you will support the Dupage Children's Museum so it may continue to offer such great opportunites to the city of the Chicagoland area. Thank you. But, it's so much more than playing!! Watching a young child figure out how to attach pipes and tubes together so that the water flows a certain way is exciting science and math all in one! Making music using instruments from all over the world teaches them about culture and history and how sounds are created! Every little thing in this museum is exciting, fun, and educational. It's hard for our family to afford going downtown Chicago to museums, with the price of gas, tolls, and parking (not to mention the horrible traffic to get there!). We NEED this museum here for the kids in our community! I have three children who have all had fun playing and learning at DCM, and it would be a shame to let this wonderful resource go when there are things that can be done financially by the community to make it work. Jennifer of Lisle, IL - Monday, October 04, 2010 at 22:38:50 DCM CHAMPION Number 105 The DuPage Children's Museum is one of the most valuable resources in the Chicagoland area, and we are fortunate to have it in such close proximity. This museum stands above the others in the Museum Coalition, such as the Chicago and Kohl's Childrens Musem, in its investigative and constructive exhibits for children to experiment with, explore, and learn. This is a place for children to grow and for parents to bond with their children. When I attend the museum with my child, it gives me an unprecedented view into my child's world and how she views things that can not be duplicated by another experience. The DuPage Children's Museum is my favorite attraction in all the surrounding areas because it is clean; it is safe; it is captivating; its staff is friendly, helpful, encouraging, and outreaching to the patrons. Often times, a staff member or volunteer will engage with my child in open ended questions to facilitate more learning and exploration. This promotes social skills and furthers her exploration. It also inspires me, as a full time mother, of more ways I can interact with my child. For me, and other parents, the DuPage Children's Museum is not just another place for my kids to play. It is a place where we learn and grow together. Acquiring the land on which DCM is located will alleviate the debt the museum faces, so they can continue to focus on what they do best: providing unique learning experiences for our most important assets for the future: Our kids. I had family visit from Ireland and recommended they take their two daughters. They were so impressed, they made multiple trips to the museum on their family vacation. Michelle & Ron of Plainfield, IL - Monday, October 04, 2010 at 22:17:37 DCM CHAMPION Number 91 As a teacher, I have learned to search out and recognize great educational resources. With the development of technology and efficiency, children no longer receive the proper spaces to learn and enjoy mathematical and scientific principles. The museum is a wondeful place that allows children to investigate all their senses and observations and, most importantly, it preserves the joy of learning. It is an educational tool that needs to remain in the community. Grazyna of Naperville, IL - Monday, October 04, 2010 at 22:16:48 DCM CHAMPION Number 90 The museum promotes love for learning and discovery among kids. DCM's interactive play makes kids think and work out problems for themselves - no TVs, no computers, just imaginative exploration. I bring my friends and their children from all over Chicagoland and they love it and want to return again and again. Besides, when I volunteered there (2009-10) I was amazed at how efficient and well run it was especially considering how much they depended on volunteer staff. It is a real treasure and we must all support DCM in every way that we can! Margaret of Naperville, IL - Monday, October 04, 2010 at 22:09:50 DCM CHAMPION Number 86 My family and friends have enjoyed so many memories and stimulating days at DCM. It is a safe environment geared towards the development of children that can't be replicated in one's home to the scale or capacity that DCM provides. The museum nutures the curious mind of the young and allows chidren to see their world in so many different and unique ways in an environment that allows a child to be just that - a child. The city benefits from tourism, if only one is here for the day while visiting DCM. Naperville benefits in every aspect with keeping this museum - our reputation of being family friendly, which effects our home values and our schools, to our businesses that reap in the benefits, etc. I just can't see losing such a vital component to our city and it's younger population, who this ultimately effects, yet, they don't have a voice due to their minor status. My support is for the city to do everything they need to in order for DuPage Children's Museum to stay - it's incomprehensible that we've come down to the wire with a decision that is seemingly so obvious. Cathy of Naperville, IL - Monday, October 04, 2010 at 22:09:17 DCM CHAMPION Number 85 I have a 22 months old boy and the DuPage Children's Museum is one of the places he loves the most around here. It's amazing to see how much he learns there and how he can relate what he learns at the museum with his activities at home or wherever else (playing with air, sand, linking cause and consequence, etc). DCM is really a place that contributes with his development. Additionally, it gives him the chance to socialize and learn while watching other kids. I haven't found any other place around here that offers the quality, safety and number of resources and exhibitions DCM offers. The staff is very supportive and they always help us out, motivating my son to try new things, enriching the experience of the visit. Although I'm a little late sending this, I appreciate if this message gets to the council. This is my heartfelt statement. Our family truly believe in the contribution and importance of the museum to our son's healthy development as to a number of kids and parents we meet at DCM every time we visit. We drive the hour from our house, several times a week to go to the museum. It is worth the drive to know that my daughter is spending her time learning and playing in a way that today's youth is not getting from the tv. If this museum is not around anymore, that is doing today's youth a big diservice, and a diservice to our community. Naperville has been ranked as one of the best place's to raise a family. Children are the center of a family. Close the museum and Naperville will be losing a good chunk of its family appeal. As a grandmother of many, this year my grandchildren have visited the Children's Museum with me over 50 times and still love it, leave happy and are anxious to return! Margaret of Naperville, IL - Monday, October 04, 2010 at 21:17:06 DCM CHAMPION Number 59 The DCM is a part of what makes living in Naperville area so supportive of families with young children. We love it. It's hands on creativity, science, math and imagination! Andrea of Naperville, IL - Monday, October 04, 2010 at 21:15:23 DCM CHAMPION Number 58 The DuPage Children's Museum is an unique, educational venue for children and their families. I've seen first hand how we make a difference in the lives of children. I fully support the effort to ensure the future of DCM and place it on public land. Sue of Wheaton, IL - Monday, October 04, 2010 at 21:13:55 DCM CHAMPION Number 55 It's an amazing educational and cultural institution that only increases Naperville's overall appeal and value to visitors, residents and potential residents. Daina of Oak Park, IL - Monday, October 04, 2010 at 21:10:00 DCM CHAMPION Number 54 We were members for several years when my son was younger and often attended the Autism Thursday night programs. My son, now 16, did some volunteer work at the museum this past summer also. The museum provides many recreational, cultural, and educational activities & programs, and I think would be sorely missed if it was gone (as the song says "you don't know what you've got till it's gone") Susie of Aurora, IL - Monday, October 04, 2010 at 21:09:30 DCM CHAMPION Number 53 Our family has had a DCM membership for six years. We visit the museum often during the year and bring guests too. We often enjoy a meal or shopping in downtown Naperville after a museum visit. The museum's creative exhibits have stimulated, educated, and pleased our children who are now ages 8, 7 and 3. When my husband and I decided to relocate here from Minneapolis six years ago, we were impressed that Naperville has its own fantastic children's museum, right downtown. We knew Naperville was the right place to raise our two daughters. Letting this museum go would be a travesty, and a sad commentary on where our values have shifted in this town. Please keep this institution alive and running; my young daughters still love DCM and we want it around for years to come! Catherine of Naperville, IL - Monday, October 04, 2010 at 20:58:27 DCM CHAMPION Number 45 I grew up going to the DuPage Children's Museum with my younger brother when it was in the Community Center. It was simpler then, but still very exciting; it helped teach me to think outside the box. Now that I can take my own children to the current (greatly expanded) museum, it's like returning home and sharing a part of my childhood with them. Indeed it certainly helps make those slower days (the too slow, the "Mom, is it rest time yet?" days) go faster and be brighter and I hope that the Museum will be around for my grandchildren in another 20 (ish) years. Gretchen of Wheaton, IL - Monday, October 04, 2010 at 20:55:20 DCM CHAMPION Number 44 As a Mom, this Museum is a crucial resource. The "exhibits" are fantastic for learning and play at all ages: I bring my now 4 and 7 year old kids here all the time. It's especially useful when the weather is bad, which can happen any time of year! The class offerings are fun and unique. In fact, the whole museum is unique. The only thing I've heard it compared to is the kid's museum at Navy Pier. I haven't made it there yet, and I'm not likely to anytime soon! Who could drive that far and pay for parking?! That's why this museum needs to stay open. Keeping it in Naperville is also a no-brainer for the city. You have NO IDEA how many people know the museum regionally!! And how many folks stay in downtown for lunch or coffee or for visiting the other attractions (ie RiverWalk)?! Only good things can come of this arrangement. I really appreciate that city leaders worked so hard to make this work. My appreciation will be reflected in my vote!! :-) Leslie of Naperville, IL - Monday, October 04, 2010 at 20:54:52 DCM CHAMPION Number 43 The museun is a wonderful resource for our children and an economic engine for the city. My children have learned how air makes things move, discovered what floats and what does not in the water table and used tools for the first time in the construction house to build a boat and a car. Every time we go we find something new and interesting that they want to explore. Please support the DuPage Children's Museum so many more children can also benefit from it in the future. I think having a # 1 Best Museum voting is a real plus for our great city of Naperville to have. Naperville has always prided itself on being one of the kid-friendliest and best places to live and raise a family. Our society must embrace the importance of science (water, air, etc) and math (blocks, geometry space on 2nd floor) to advance American (Naperville area!) education. Thank you for your consideration!
