Children swarmed DuPage Children's Museum on December 10, 2009 to visit the Insect Zoo sponsored by Anderson Pest Solutions and local cable access channel NCTV17 was there to capture some of the action.
Children and adults alike had the opportunity to feel the tickle of a giant pumpkin millipede as it marched across the palm of their hands. They were able to listen to the sound a Madagascar hissing cockroach made and touch the strong shell of an Eastern Hercules beetle. Tom Dobrinska, APS Training Director and staff entomologist, and Mark Mayer, APS Service Specialist and Chief Bug Keeper, were on hand to explain how these “Good Guy” bugs serve as nature’s recyclers, contributing to our environment. This event was free with membership or museum admission. Check the calendar for return engagements to be scheduled throughout 2010.
